Month: April 2022
CASE STUDY *** Sun Equipment Used Forklifts *** Below is Google’s list of National Rankings on April 16, 2022 for this company’s most important “Search Words” for this business. Google states that a #1 ranking for a company’s SEARCH WORDS means that company is getting approximately a 28.5% Click Thru Rate (CTR) or in layman’s terms a “visit to the company website” by potential customers typing in these keywords on Google to find a business, product or service. These metrics are approximate and do vary but in this case, this means that Sun Equipment Forklifts is showing up on PAGE 1 of Google in the #1 ranking position when anyone is searching on Google with these Search Words (NATIONALLY). Sun Equipment serves the entire country and is now getting an average of 28.5% of the 4600 searches (1300+) clicks directly from the company listing on Google to their website every – single – month. How many clicks are you getting to your website for your company’s MOST IMPORTANT key words that represent your top services and products? Hi guys I realized the other day that the average walking speed for humans is approximately 3.1 MPH. You are probably wondering what does this have to do with SEO? Well, it really doesn’t except I feel most SEO tips are too complicated and offer too much information in one session for the average human to grasp quickly. Therefore, I am introducing a new series in a few weeks where we will move at an average pace called “SEO Tips at 3 MPH”.
In this new series I will introduce a series of short videos with quick tips, tools or reference information to help contractors navigate the turbulent waters of Contractor Marketing & SEO at a comfortable pace. I am confident this series will allow you to follow along and really help jump start your contracting business with SEO.
I am looking forward to this new series because I know it will help your company GROW WITH SEO!

We know better than most how frustrating it can be at times working on SEO programs. Take it from us sometimes we feel like yelling too! (Don’t tell anyone but sometimes we do yell). Unfortunately, a significant part of any SEO program is at the mercy of the Google algorithm that Google is running at the current moment. And, yes – it can change at a moment’s notice.
SEO is not a “quick solution” but a long-term strategy
The important thing to remember is that if you have a solid SEO plan that is not trying to “game” the Google system or designed for some sort of “quick fix”, you will almost always achieve your desired results. SEO must be a well thought-out, long-term strategy. My advice is to not even consider starting a SEO plan or strategy without a commitment to seeing it through and a trusted guide by your side. You may have heard, “Don’t quit before the miracle.” These words of wisdom certainly apply to any Search Engine Optimization program.
SEO CASE STUDY
Sun Equipment is a long time client that sells forklifts to construction companies throughout the U.S. They were feeling frustrated several months into our initial SEO project because their rankings on Google were proceeding up the scale a bit slower than they had hoped. Our goal was a big one as we were working to rank this company Nationally vs locally or even regionally. Patience paid off. Shortly after the 12 month mark, Sun Equipment reached in the TOP 3 rankings in the country on Google for the very highly valued search term USED FORKLIFTS FOR SALE.
When they reached that milestone, Sun Equipment owner, Mike Hoskins, screamed (and yes, YELLED), “HALLELUJAH!” Since that time, our firm has been able to keep Sun Equipment within the top rankings on page one of Google nationally. How? By sticking to our long-term plan while constantly monitoring and adjusting our SEO strategies when and if needed. Keep in mind, SEO is a strategic but also reactive process – reactive not only to Google but to the competition within the marketplace. Fortunately for Sun Equipment, our client’ forklift sales continues today to see a 400% growth in used forklift sales.
LESSON: Be patient and trust your SEO team to manage your long-term plan.

Good news… this is a short lesson on Keyword Density. Keyword density is defined as the % of times a keyword is used in an article. You may ask, how does that relate to Google and SEO? The answer is simple, Google will penalize (not rank) your content, article or post in relation to Google search results if you overuse your target keyword.
Overusing a keyword is known as “Keyword Stuffing”. My advice is to use your target keyword in a way that looks and reads naturally. There are some keyword density guidelines that should be followed for safety that state to use your target keyword between 0.5% and 3.0%. For example: a 1000 word article should not have the same keyword reoccurring more than 3% or 30 times. The take away here is DO NOT KEYWORD STUFF! The only thing that needs stuffing is a turkey on Thanksgiving… o.k. I will stick with SEO and leave the comedic humor to someone else.

Don’t over think SEO! Use common sense when picking the title to an article or page on your website that you want to drive traffic to. If you are looking for more service calls for your HVAC business then you could create a page celebrating your business achievements in your service area. For example: Title a page or write a post on your website like “Smith HVAC in Miami FL Market Offers 5 Star Service” and elaborate on the services you provide in the Miami, FL. market and how you are different from the competition.
Do a little research to find the top searched keywords in the Miami market associated with HVAC. I suggest a tool called AHREFS to find these keywords. You can purchase the Lite version for $99/month at https://ahrefs.com/pricing. Once you have developed a list of keywords that fit your business model, build them into your page strategically but in a natural way to ensure you do not use the keyword too many times. Over using the keyword is known as KEYWORD STUFFING and can damage your SEO strategy.
Now go get to work building relevant pages or posts on your website using keywords and start to Grow with SEO.

You are probably asking what is he thinking?
Let me explain, empathy is a noun and it is defined as “the ability to understand and share the feelings of another”. Therefore when creating information displayed on your website try to walk in the shoes of your customer. Keep in mind, generally a Google searcher does not know anything about your business when they are searching for answers to a specific problem. I suggest the following, figure out the why behind the reason customers contact you through phone calls etc… and create content on your website that addresses those specific needs and questions.
For example, is it emergency service they call about? If so, then make it clear on your website that you offer 24 hour emergency service.
Do your customers appreciate your automated service call & appointment software that keeps the customer aware of when the technician is arriving? Then emphasize your service call time guarantees etc… I think you get the point.
One final point, TRUST! Trust is crucial so make sure your website displays your reviews prominently so a first time searcher and visitor to your website sees your high quality 5 Star reviews. Grow with SEO & Good Luck!
I have been in the Digital Marketing space for almost 2 decades. The one common denominator I know is Google Has NO RULES. I have seen sites ranked at the top of Google search results that you would think have no business being there. You need to understand we are at the mercy of a machine. Granted the machine gets better and more intuitive everyday but at the end of the day it is still a machine.
I do have one observation you can take to the bank. Google loves brands. You can never over optimize your brand. A strong and relevant brand will trump all the fancy SEO experts every time. So if you are starting a business and are not sure how to get the best results on Google build your brand name. Invest in a strong logo, spend the time and research hours to pick the right name that tells your story because when everything else fails you will have your brand.
Contractor SEO PROS are brand experts and we are here to help you in any way whether it is a new logo, website design or rebuild or a powerful SEO strategy. Contact a crew member today. Grow with SEO. Good Luck!
